What I’d Like for My Birthday

By Reyna HarilelaOctober 20261 min read

This year, for my birthday, I am asking for something else.

I am lucky enough to have everything I need, and very little I want.

So I am giving my birthday away, and raising funds for International Justice Mission — a charity close to my heart.

IJM works to protect people living in poverty from violence: trafficking, slavery, and the systems that allow both to continue. It is patient, unglamorous work, and it matters more than anything I could unwrap.

If you were thinking of flowers, or a bottle of something, please don’t. Send it to IJM instead — whatever you would have spent, or whatever feels right.

Their Hong Kong office is at ijmhk.org, and I would rather you looked than took my word for it.

Thank you. It would be the loveliest present I could ask for.
